David asks…

Can weight loss be negatively affected by a low-calorie diet?

I try to eat between 1100-1300 calories a day (I’m 5’1″), but I’m not always able to eat all of it on busy weekdays. I do however, usually manage to eat an appropriate amount of protein and carbs. For example, today I’ve eaten 700 calories (47 g protein, 112 g carbs, 11 g fat).

Should I be able to maintain muscle and lose fat despite my low-calorie intake?

Power Health Tips answers:

When you reduce drastically the amount of calories you eat regularly, your body gets used to work only with that amount of calories (a kind of starvation mode), and when you finish your diet and eating normally again, your body recognizes that excess calories and interprets like you’re overeating. Then the weight you lost, you recover it again.

The secret to have definitely your ideal weight, is to identify the habits that led you to being overweight, to replace them with the right habits that will allow you to have a healthy lifestyle.
